Penetrant testing (PT) for precise detection of surface-breaking discontinuities
Penetrant testing (also known as liquid penetrant inspection) is a proven, visual non-destructive testing method. Using capillary action, we reliably reveal the finest surface cracks, porosity and lack-of-fusion defects on non-porous components that are invisible to the naked eye.
Key features and application areas:
- Versatile on non-porous materials: Ideal for testing austenitic/stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, brass, and castings and forgings.
- A perfect complement to magnetic particle testing: The optimal solution for crack detection on non-ferromagnetic metals and alloys, where magnetic particle testing (MT) cannot be applied.
- Flexible on-site & standards-compliant: Performed using red-white color contrast penetrant systems (in daylight) or highly sensitive fluorescent systems (under UV light) in accordance with ISO 3452 and ISO 23277 — directly on-site or in the manufacturing facility.
